Impacted Tooth Extraction

What is an Impacted Teeth?

Impacted tooth is also known as wisdom tooth. When these teeth cannot find a place to come out in the mouth, that is, if the person has a problem with jaw stenosis, they are buried in the palate. For this reason, it was named an embedded tooth. These teeth are also called three molars. These teeth are rooted at the age of 17 and should normally erupt between the ages of 18-21. If it comes out in accordance with the mouth structure, it has a great effect on chewing.

20 Tooth Symptoms?

  1. Severe toothaches
  2. Redness and swelling of the gums
  3. Bleeding in the gums
  4. Bad breath
  5. Swelling around the chin
  6. Headaches

Due to anatomical reasons such as stenosis of the jaw, wisdom teeth that sometimes cannot come out and remain under the gingiva can lead to various infections. There may be redness around the impacted wisdom tooth, local swelling, severe pain in the neck and pain when swallowing. Another problem caused by wisdom teeth is that it creates crowding in the teeth. Wisdom teeth that cause curvature can also press on adjacent teeth and cause deformities and decay. At this point, it can be decided to remove the wisdom teeth within the scope of orthodontic treatment. The extraction process of wisdom teeth is performed with local anesthesia.

What Kind of Damage Do Wisdom Teeth Do?

Impacted teeth, often wisdom teeth, cause various discomforts in the jawbone and surrounding tissues when they cannot find enough space for eruption through the jawbone into the mouth. The most common of these is tooth and jaw pain in the relevant area. Although there is no caries in the second molars, just in front of the wisdom teeth, pressure-related pain can be observed. In case the impacted wisdom teeth are not extracted, caries in the second molars, melting of the tooth roots and abscess formation may occur due to the continuation of this pressure. In neglected cases, cysts may form in the jawbone and cause loss of permanent teeth and bone resorption in the jawbone.

How is the treatment of impacted wisdom teeth?

Detailed clinical and radiological examination is important before the treatment of impacted wisdom teeth. In young individuals who have enough room to erupt in the jawbone and whose eruption direction is normal, medical treatment may be sufficient for the follow-up of these teeth and pain control in case of pain. Impacted wisdom teeth, which have harmful effects on teeth and bone tissue, should be removed immediately.
